The Journey of Life

We are all traveling on this journey we call life. Studying and planning for the future so we can make changes in life NOW that will compound in the future is crucial. Long lasting change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to lay the groundwork. Most of the overnight success stories you hear about are only when you see the results finally come pouring in. When you see the ship come in you don’t always see how that person knew what they wanted and learned how to get there. You didn’t see them build the ship itself.
When you go on a vacation/road trip, you make plans so you can make the most of it. You book the room/house/cruise, plan the route to get there as well as the mode of transportation, budget and save so you can pay for it as well as have spending money for it, research and plan for activities to do while you’re there, and schedule time off work. You also make plans in case the original plans might go amiss, such as a breakdown, or bad weather.
Life is a journey, and thus, to fully experience it the way you desire, you have to plan as well. First and foremost, death is what’s at the end of it, that’s just a fact of life, but once we figure out where we want to be in life when that time comes, that’s the destination we plan for.
Wanting to be a big corporate CEO? Big tech, bank, or a multinational internet retail business? How are you going to get there? What courses will you take and at what school for those degrees? Will you grind for the fast track up the corporate ladder or will you start your own business to do it?
Maybe a big name in sports is what calls you. Which sport? Are you planning around all the hours needed for practice to hone your skills so you can be first draft pick? Are you going to focus on that and cut out partying because you see them as a distraction or juggle training and a social life?
Or are you wanting to be a provider for your family? What career route will you take? Is the money worth more than the time spent with family as long as they’re being taken care of? Or is making enough to pay bills so you can spend more time with your spouse and children more important? Maybe a balance of both?
The sooner you figure out the destination you want to get to in life, the sooner you can plan to become in alignment with that end goal. Knowing all the how’s and whys, and back up routes when detours pop up.
But just like taking a vacation, you’ll never do so if you don’t start taking action to make it happen. You can’t get to your desired destination if you just dream about it all day every day. You have to put in effort and align to it. You have to make choices that put you in better positions. Drifting through life hoping it’ll happen is a sure fire way for it to never happen. You have to make changes now to get to where you want to be.
If you know what you want in life you can’t just wait for your ship to come in. You have to build that ship now by making the changes needed to align you to that life. You have to learn what’s required of you to make it real. Learning what you need to do now and making the changes needed might be hard at first, especially if you’re just starting out. But with the right planning, the further along you go in your journey in life things get easier as you become aligned with the destination.
And the further you go, the more you can teach others who have similar goals and want/need that knowledge. Most importantly is the experiences you gain on the journey to your destination. Lessons learned in good and bad times, and the stories and adventures you share on the way. The pride you felt when you overcame obstacles in your path. All the people you met on the way, good and bad.
We’re all on a journey called life. The better you understand it, the easier you can change yourself to travel it much more smoothly to your desired destination. So what’s your destination? What are you doing to make sure you get there?
Thank you for reading and have an enlightening day.
